Gravatom has won a major contract in excess of £750,000 to design, manufacture, test and deliver a tool maintenance glovebox (TMG) for Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL).
The glovebox will be developed and designed at Gravatom’s site in Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. Following a “mock up assembly” and detailed design, the TMG will be manufactured and assembled prior to testing and onward delivery to the customer’s site in Dounreay.
The equipment will be used for the periodic maintenance of a series of 16 tools with varying handling / machining capabilities. The maintenance is being carried out in conjunction with the removal of 977 breeder elements and a single core element from the Dounreay Fast Reactor (DFR).
DSRL Project Manager, Peter Poulton, said: “We chose Gravatom for the design and manufacture of the DFR tool maintenance glovebox based on price, programme, experience and technical ability.”
Gary Townrow, Gravatom’s Project Manager, said: “This is a major contract win for Gravatom and the largest that we have undertaken for DSRL to date. This type of project is core business for us and is a testament to our technical expertise and capability within the nuclear industry.”
